@Prismatic IMO exceptions must be parseable by a program so it can do something useful in response. Which means the cause must be stored in the type, and context as the value of the exception object (BTW. .what() is not enough context, also not really required)

I think types are appropriate

Nothing wrong with more types if they need to be handles differently

Maybe have something like:

And then something like:
