Anyway, CardView, it's apparently in the compatibility package. Just looked at them for the first time in a few years and v7 has been split into 4 and the sources don't indicate any of them contain CardView as this link suggests: developer.android.com/preview/material/ui-widgets.html

If those are the only views (aka, they don't need to be recycled or swaped around to form different columns) I would imagine it's just views inside a ListView

It's interesting why those things are not in the official documentantion

It's superimposing a "header" view ontop of a normal GridView but hooking it to the adapter and notifiable so that together they act the same as a normal GridView

Probably because it's app specific, a GridView with a single overarching top item isn't a basic component, nor does it particularly push the Materials theme.

The regular listview do have an "addHeaderView" method.

Ah, but the top view isn't a "Header View" - it's actually view 0 in your Adapter :)

So it's dynamic

Yes, that's why I asked that question. The "header" is the first element of the adapter.

Found the fix to the CardView problem - They've specifically tried to hardwire it into L-preview.

Usually the "Header View" is a static view which doesn't change relative to the contents of the adapter.
