Your biggest bottleneck is the fact that you are executing the HTTP requests in sequence, not in parallel. curl is able to perform multiple requests in parallel. Here's an example from the documentation, heavily adapted to use a loop and actually collect the results. I cannot promise it's correct...

Not really. I live with my brother and his gf of 4 years and their 2 dogs. We're out of space, one of the dogs bark, and they bicker so much. (All couples bicker, it just annoys the crap out of me because it's all such stupid arguments)
