On click of the cancel button i get a hard failure see logcat. The line ChartingFragment.java:617 is dialog.dismiss(); I'm not quite sure why its saying its null or cannot find the dialog that is there. well the main reason was cause i found a tutorial where i could create a calendar and place images on it and set background images/colors
