Yeah sure, but most programming books are in english; the docs of most languages or frameworks are in english and most stuff you will find about your specific programming language will probably be in english. So yeah, you have to at least be able to understand that.

@WarrenFaith Yeh I tried to use it but then I have to call the repaint() and it is like invalidate(), not instantaneous. SurfaceView then you have the Canvas to draw on and I want that control in plain old java too. :/

So weird that no one knows a good equivalent.

well the draw thread isn't instantaneously, too

you lock the canvas to draw on it

locking means you wait for the next switch cycle of the framebuffer

on android that means every 1/60 of a second (roughly 16ms)

If you compare a View and it's invalidate method which takes a lot of time to finish if you call it a succession, to a SurfaceView and it's underlying Canvas where you lock the canvas then do your thing, with SurfaceView I have more control

repaint shouldn't do remeasuring the layout

so invalidate on android should be totally different than the paint method in JPanel

basically draw() == paint() so in both cases you have the same "speed" and "overhead"

running loose means: waste of energy and possible heat up of CPU/GPU (which might make the laptop/desktop fans speed up as hell)

you don't want that :D

vsync also improves the visual feedback

so im trying to figure something out

im adapting my app for landscape mode, but during the splash screen its doing all kinds of crazy shit in the background thats going to just crash the hell out of the app if you rotate (which would cause the full lifecycle to go through and stuff)

it would run multiple instances of the login task and all hell would break lose

so i was wondering if there is a way to lock an activity in the current orientation its in when its created

like it supports both landscape and portrait, but once you load it in either it stays that way

all i can find now is ways to lock it on portrait always or landscape always
