This meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/318885/… really annoys me. The entire problem wasn't fixed, so let's undo hours of work and steps towards a fix.

Probably because most people agree with the OP - the removal of comments was ridiculous and detrimental to the site

I can kind of understand it. The c# regex engine is different from the java regex engine which is again different from the python regex engine

Each of them have their own quirks and sometimes different syntax completely

But when someone sees Java code they aren't thinking about a c# regex engine.

Yes, but it doesn't mean the tag is useless

That's why the technology/language/tool should be tagged. When a RegEx question is tagged with java it should be clear

Well yes, but that goes against the current standard of tags. Same reason we have twitter-bootstrap rather than tagging bootstrap and css

@Rob bootstrap is gone, merged with twitter-bootstrap. And there is no guideline when the javaregex should be used thus ambiguous

And twitter-bootstrap should be use accompanying with css. T-boot... is a CSS framework and adding the tag makes the intent of the OP clear that OP want solution using t-b

@Tushar Yes - it was gone because it conflicted with other uses of bootstrap, just like regex potentially could. Either way, I feel like it's splitting hairs anyway, but still think a standard should be kept. Otherwise how will people know how to properly create tags/use them ?

No, but tags don't necessarily reflect a physical entity. Twitter-bootstrap does not exist (anymore) :)

Anyway, I don't really care one way or the other.. just my view on it

there's only 2 questions so either way.. doesn't really matter.

@Rob the effort it would take to delete all the comments. sometimes this site has a passive-aggressive feel to it.

Pretty sure it was a one-click revert which makes it even worse. The official response is that it's better to 'do it properly', which is the exact opposite of the action taken by the mod

Shog's answers typically get on my nerves though; it's either his way or you're wrong (plus insults)

Especially since he's a community coordinator - the responses don't seem (to me) to be very professional if you were to dare disagree

@Rob Shog is usually pretty good and bright, but sometimes he is a bit inflexible and I feel he has excellent skills at somehow changing my opinion, even though I'm not sure I agree with him. Superb rhetoric skills.

I have decided to treat Mods and Employees the same as anyone else and if I see something I don't agree with, calling them out on it. I think the community puts people on pedestals

The typical @Shog9 insightful post takes human psychology into account. We are awarding internet brownie points to inspire knee jerk quick fixes a significant portion of the time.
