Here is a other solution if the nav is supposed to be part of the header jsfiddle.net/699n0qqf/3 (you can play with the height of you header, the nav will stay fixed (no the property used) to the bottom.

people don't use preprocessors to learn CSS

they use it to avoid learning CSS (in bad cases)

because even using it for DRY reasons is ultimately not impactful, since it gets converted actual CSS anyway before the browser can read it
