I do not read anywhere that there is some kind of weight age given to specific rule. I thought all rules need to be followed if someone miss one they are ineligible. Sorry to say that ALL APPS here are ineligible here. Why favoritism then???

@AbbyT.Miller I am completely unsatisfied with the results, on what ground you have selected those winners. Also for 1st position winners you guys have to distribute 10 surface according the rules. Also its clear written that 1st and 2nd position winners will be selected on the basis of votes. Then how you have selected those apps. I am expecting a decent from you guys. I have given my time for not winning the contest but for competing with other good developers but it seems to be fake.

I think its kinda a waste of time talking here. I already wasted my time developing an app and now doing discussion here with no hope. It seems SO and MS people are making fun of developers.

I developed an app and fullfill all guideline and still dont know why I am not winner while apps votes less than mine wins

Don't forget, votes were the judging criteria with the LEAST weight to them. Innovativeness/Creativity in migrating your BEFORE to AFTER app (30%);
Quality of Submission (30%);
Use of Windows 8 features such as the live tile display (30%); and

Thank you MS and SO for the third prize for eduheap. I wasn't expecting to win as I was late. But as I see now the criteria, I see votes didn't really matter. The app was a three month work, lots of code in the backend, app and other place. We also got "good" rating from Microsoft Applabs, its hard to get one. The app also won the national innovation prize here in India in a competition held by Microsoft among more than 10,000 developers.

Would have loved to win the grand prize and connect with the guys at redmond, get their feedback, but I guess the decision was rushed. Maybe some other day.

I am not saying why these app not selected for grand prize but atleast for runner team for eligible contestant they should be awarded. as in rules they said 10 surface 2 per group in 5 groups.

Eduheap has his own website, @AbbyT.Miller I don't think Website is part of any app, There is API by using those API one can import all information from website to app, as there are Bing, Google, Amazon apps are there those are fetching information from website to app. Its not called Porting of app. still its winner...

Yeah I don't know their decision process on each app, I'm not with MS or SO, I was just pointing out that votes were only 10% of the consideration. People seems to be saying most votes should have won, but it was only 10%. Would probably be a little better if they made the scoring they gave public. on the Apptivate 1.0 contest there was a lot of grumbling at the end too. Maybe take the public voting out altogether. so while they are extremely high-quality, they unfortunately weren't eligible for prizes

We ported the my android apps and uploaded on store from my & my friends account.. we tried to port perfectly also gave interactive UI to app which will interact kids to learn. this contest was about porting new apps to the Windows Store. KidsZone was already in the Windows Store for months at the start of the contest - that makes it ineligible, i'm very sorry to report

additionally, KidsZone was in the Apptivate 1.0 contest, too, which violates the "The AFTER app cannot have been submitted previously in a promotion of any kind or exhibited or displayed publicly through any means." clause in the Terms & Conditions

Frankly, I support keeping the current awards. Microsoft has the prerogative to choose whatever winner they like. The prizes should be awarded at their discretion. You may disagree with the results, but it's not the end of the world. Be polite. Be gracious. Run your own contest and give the prize to whatever app you choose.

What on earth is wrong with you guys? What are you talking about eduheap is a website and not app. I use wcf to communicate with the servers. Eduheap windows 8 app does not fetch data from the website, it use WCF to communicate with the server. Secondly, according to wikipedia, porting is

@Ashwin - If you are talking about rules (like where it is written), your app is still ineligible. See this rule -> (1)*copy of demo video* that showcases an original app you have created for iOS, Android, or other app platform (your "BEFORE" app), and one (1) demo video that showcases as original app Windows Store app you have created, the name and a description of your app, and up to eight.

That's the different story rules are not followed here.

Hi Abby, - I am requesting you to remove me from the list of SweepStake winners (I can see my name in that list).
For me it was never about winning prize/reward, it was about a chance to *compete fairly* with other developers.
How things have progress here in last few days, the charm of competing is alltogether lost. I do not see in anyway this can be corrected(atleast for me personally)
Having said that, please remove me from that list (SweepStake winners). I would really appreciate if you can take care of this part. My bad, if somewhere my language seem to be rude as that was never my in…

hi Sachin, i'm sorry to see you go, but i understand your reasoning. no hard feelings - i'll remove you from the list. i don't think i'm going to be able to convince you otherwise...

here is what unfortunately has to be my final announcement on the matter:

The contest and winners have been reviewed by Microsoft and they will stand as announced. If there is another promotion like this, next time around, we will include a People's Choice award and I will personally see to it that the rules are interpreted strictly and fairly. Unfortunately, though, that's it for this iteration of the event.
