it's kinda funny. The lessons today were cancelled (scheduled to be for months) to set up a lock up plan and do training of the teachers in case of a terrorist attack. All of the teachers kept complaining about it. Well, there you have it :P
our school is kind of the symbol of european partnership in the UK (closing next year, which is also somewhat funny), so it is somewhat of a high symbolic target
well, related terrorism happens everywhere, but I agree that much more in the middle east. Things that are headline news when they happen in paris are daily events there
In a year, world-wide, 10,000 to 20,000 people die from terrorist attacks, while heroin for example kills anywhere from 150,000-200,000 people a year world-wide.
@Alesana as a citizen of probably any country, I'd rather they invested more in security and stuff rather than to make sure that someone who doesn't want dignity/a life, will have it
@Luggage no, but the british government handled this really well apparently, and I'm glad the budget has been spend in having a very good police and medical personnel rather than to combat heroin consumption
Due to my self-loathing, I come home from work every day and drink a beer while I down 2 cheese filled hot dogs, then I smoke some pot and take a poop. Then I watch youtube videos until bedtime.
@towc It seems you feel that the government shouldn't do anything to help drug addicts? Do you have the view that a heroin addict wants to be addicted to heroin?
@Meredith Back when I did used to play, I had a character called "father_bob", and I went around dressed as a priest, and I charged people large sums of gold to hold runeecape weddings. It was the perfect scam.
Wanting to punish people that are addicts and blame everything on them just comes for your sense of morality. You find them to be 'bad' for what they do. The data dats helping helps and just jailing does not
So you either care about what really helps or you just want to punish.

They can go to their dealer and their dealer is going to try to have them continue using heroin to keep making money, or they could go through someone who is trying to help them.
The west installed the Ba'athists in an effort to increase instability. It's a relatively low resource war which the British and Far East have vested interest in because of oil availability, and which the US benefits from because they can use the "threat" of radical Islam as a means to scare people into forgoing civil liberties.
@SalOrozco There's a couple things I think. One is the psychological addiction, and one is physical...usually having to due with an affect on production or absorption of dopamine or serotonin.
But then you also have wildcards like ecstasy which flood your system with serotonin and dopamine and also reduces re-absorption rate. However, few people get physically addicted because it's hard to abuse over long periods of time. You can't roll as hard the second day, let alone the third, etc.
@Meredith I agree partly, though. People take heroin or heroin equivalents all the time in a medical setting. Sometimes regularly for pain management. It can be done, but it's very addictive and harmful over long term. Not "D.A.R.E." level harmful, though.
Which are very rare to get addicted to, and as far as I know are not physically addictive at all. The dangerous component in acid for instance is getting research chemicals because the government regulates its use and reduces availability and market regulation of quality.
I won't touch anything harder than pot... I had pot laced with something extra once, and it royally fucked me up... I did not enjoy that. No thank you.
If you use psychedelics too much though, people can get a little weird. I don't think it has THAT much to do with altering their brain, but more to do with their crazy experiences and how often they perceive and rationalize reality vs their tripping state.
Honestly, I started to smoke pot because of my stomach issues; I was having debilitatingly painful stomach cramps almost daily, and I was sick of the pain
@Luggage apparently, you can't take away customs; like there are some people that clean their house and burn everything in a bonfire, then fast for 4 days, then they harvest, visit friends and there starts life anew for them
