When writing a node app, what kinds of packages should I install globally and what should I install locally?

Stuff like babel is apparently supposed to be global

like express you can install globally, and people do.

I just don't see the point, I'm not using the scaffolding or other cli features

a lot of things have both: grunt-cli and grunt

even (as I mentioned above) if you use grunt/gulp, you'll need a local version

you can still use package.json to track deps

So I'm trying to use some vendor's proprietary remote desktop js. As near as I can tell, they implemented their own wacky virtual machine in javascript so they could port over their native code.
