In the last two years they've used a lot of concrete to build an underground tunnel system and booby trapped a lot of areas.

The Israeli army doesn't carpet bomb and doesn't shell civilian areas (at least intentionally)

I never really understood what the hell is going on there in the whole area for last couple of decades.. there are a few versions of the story and none of them really sounds convenient

The egyptians gas those tunnels when they find them

The biggest struggle is how to take care of the hostile government there without dropping bombs on civilian population.

@jAndy it's quite simple really, the people in Gaza are poor and Israel and Egypt are both oppressing them (really, we are, anyone who denies that is lying or is misinformed). Every time we let stuff like chemical components and concrete in they try to use it to bomb us - which makes sense because we are oppressing them (by not letting stuff in to begin with). So the Israelis and Egyptians don't want to let too much stuff in, and on the other hand the Gazans are oppressed.

The fact that their government is very corrupt does not help either.

it just sounds like a huge David-versus-Goliath scenario, where Palestine obv is David. Seriously.. thats not really a conflict really. Palestine shrinked systematically over the past decades and they can't really do anything againt it

@jAndy there was never a country called Palestine, the Palestinian territories have not shrinked very much at all. In fact in 2000 Israel offered Palestinian leaders 94% of the original territory as well as a comparable sized land area in areas that are not populated by Israelis (remember that the settlement is based on lines that have only ever existed in theory).

@jAndy it's about neither really. Israel is very disinterested in Gaza, we even withdrew anything we had there in a one sided fashion from there about 6 years ago.

Some areas are called "settlements" although they're neighborhoods in Israeli cities. Remember that the border was decided by the UN and is completely arbitrary. Israel agreed to that border in 1947 but reality meant some areas that already border Jewish cities will have to stay in Israel. That's the "building settlements" you hear of.
