I'm not sure I ever saw a tutorial that was smart enough to be doable without being bored.

Apart maybe the first GWT one but GWT itself was boring.

I guess it depends on the subject matter

If it's something I don't know a damn thing about, then the whole thing is usually pretty useful.

Like @Loktar's game tutorial he wrote a while back. I know VERY little about graphics/game programming, especially in canvas/JS, so it was useful.

I don't say tutorials aren't useful, I say I thought people were just reading them, not doing them. But I'm obviously wrong.

I learn best by doing

I'll probably go far enough that I know the basics, and then try to write something "real"

You can't literally do them at the same time.

If you have several, you can put them in an array and do them with a loop, but not at the same time, really.
