Coffeescript has significant whitespace, and compiles to javascript. Knowing javascript helps understand coffescript IMO

I believe it's just position:fixed and some jQuery.

it's very easy.

It's using jQuery animation to reduce the height to 0.

That's all.

jQuery really helps creating animations

it also leverages some cross-browser inconsistencies

atm: because transitions do not allow you to modify display properties i'm trying to fake "hide" the containers.

but the .alert divs still maintain a single pixel height

@jcolebrand from my research in a keyframe animation or a transition property the display property for the style rule is ignored

I have confirmed this in the inspector.

but I'm sure there must be a way to completely nuke the element without display: none;

problem is the parent container will never be touched. I'm just removing all children of it. having no children allows it to be not seen, having a child without display: none; doesn't.

Animations on UI are most often painful...
