You just have to set your intent filter in the manifest correctly

but the user has to set your app as the default home

once they do that whenever home key is pressed your app will launch

(note: if your app isn't actually a home screen the user is prolly gonna be pissed)

imagine a scenario right after the phone turns on

I just have a normal application that I want to detect when my application its not on the top of the "Ram".

it will boot up into your launcher which will then finish itself and the Activity Stack will be empty

I think you'd have to "manually" launch the stock launcher from your activity

define "not being on top of the 'Ram'"

problem with that though is not everyone uses the stock launcher, and the package name / intents used to launch them aren't the same on every device I think

not sure if there is a dynamic way to get a valid intent for the launcher on any given device.

Okay full explanation: I am staticaly alocating memory for a MediaPlayer object that plays a music while my application runs. The issue is that when the user navigates outside of my application, the music still plays (as it is expected since it is a static object inside the memory). I want to detect when the user navigates out of my application, in order to pause/stop the Mediaplayer object.

why would you do that?

I hate music apps that stop when I leave them (aka YouTube)

If someone calls you, the music will still play

onPause isn't the solution because I am launching it via activity A and when Activity B opens, I still want to play the music

Since I have one music playing on loop mode all the time, it just does not feel logical to keep playing it while the user navigates outside of the application

Like games, would you like to keep listening to the stream while you are out?

when I play a game, I expect it to request the audio channel from the AudioManager, and for my current song app to stop.

you can name resource files whatever you want

it's just convention that we have the names we use

for example, the Android docs say "The filename is arbitrary. The <string> element's name will be used as the resource ID."

Oh okay. So in your example for date formats, you'd just store it as a string <string name="date_format">yyyy-mm-dd</string> or something like that? but in constants.xml instead of strings.xml?

In germany the government subsidises saving for a house. You get high yearly return rates on the money you invested in such a savings plan and the government even puts money into your account.

what did you do in a warehouse (as a dev)?

I owned the shipping label printing software

I didn't actually work inside one of the warehouses

but I visited them to get a feel for the layouts, the jobs run, the people, etc

That's a good idea, I did that with some of our customers for my software. Get an idea of how it will be used, when, and by who. That sort of thing. As a dev, it's hard to understand some of that without actually talking to users

well, outside of Chicago, which is serviced by the Kentucky warehouses, most of the population is on the coasts

anyway, there's been apparently a huge shift in Amazon's priorities

thus the one in Kansas, and the one near Reno (just outside Cali)

but now that they've given up the sales tax fight, they're closing a lot of the rural warehouses in favor of being closer to major population centers

thus the new ones in the Bay area that didn't exist when I was in the dept 4 years ago

interesting, but I guess the money saved with the taxes doesn't balance out the cost of having to pay more for shipping

and thus the pending closure of the Kansas one

right, they're trying to optimize for costs
