I just accidentally discovered a way to restore colour depth in waxed leather shoes

Usually when you condition/wax shoes, the leather becomes a solid darker shade. Turns out, if you use a lint roller after the conditioner has dried, it'll pick off some of the wax

Discovered it when putting a piece of sticky tape on the eyelets to stop them scratching the leather. I didn't like the result and peeled it off... and the grain colour returned!

Of course, this means you lose some of the effectiveness of the wax, but I didn't want it in the first place
