You can look at the new Android toasts, they come in from the bottom but same idea. If you want the thing coming in from the top you can make a notification with certain options(Category => messages, Priority > High, VibrationPatter => default) and it will pop up as a Heads up notification

It's a nice language, but there are wonky issues with its type system, its collections library is broken, and nobody on the compiler team seems to know how to fix anything.
I prefer the groupings of crashes and ANRs over the play console. I can see exactly which user is logged into the app, so i can easily reproduce it with that user's account / data set. I can set custom values on a fragment, so for example which json object was being parsed before it crashed - and quickly see which edge case i missed. Or if play services were missing, or location services were off... bunch of different little flags like that you can set, and see when it crashes.
Keys are stored in a simple dictionary on disc, when the app crashes, and relaunches that dictionary with stack trace is sent to crashlytics. Once per app launch.
