They put it on a recovery HD tied to the computer hardware

So I can't burn a DVD from it

You can make the first option something like "None" or "n/a"

but the spinner wont recognize that

let me explain

you can have the first item be None and then just say if (position== 0) do whatever and thats fine

however, lets say you have 2 spinners for state and country for an address

i enter my state as california, then set my country to canada

california isnt in canada, and using my state/country database i can say "oh california shouldnt be there" and reset the adapter's position to "none"

however, the spinner will still remember california as the "selected item"

so if i change it to united state

and try to click california

it will be unresponsive

you can do it in either order

its just a view like address, city, state, country descending

i know there is a way to do this right without having to like hide views

setting a country should just reset the state spinner (set to none/please select verbiage with a list of states below)

but then this problem i just described arises

i know which countries have states necessary in their addresses

so i can say like "oh canada or US, you need a state"

otherwise, if you pick like afghanistan or something i just set the state spinner to none

BUT, if you go back and forth from selecting a country with a state, to one without, then back to one with, it doesnt work if you select the same state again

because it remembers the last position it was in as the one you chose before you went to afghanistan

what i need is a method in the spinner, NOT the adapter for selecting the ite

i have a bigger issue i didnt even realize

so when you create the spinner it automatically selects the 0 position right

i have a boolean which just waits for that to happen and exits the onItemSelected() method

to correct that godawful bug

but THEN, it still thinks that the "selected position" of the spinner is 0

so if you actually choose the item in the 0 position, it thinks you're already there and doesnt execute onItemSelected

so the United States is the first choice because its the most common

it selects 0 right after onCreate() etc, which is the US node

i dont let it actually display that in the adapter though, so instead you get the prompt

"Country"

but if you select the 0 position the spinner says "oh im already here lol" and doesnt do onItemSelected

even though its not

basically the spinner and adapter arent connected well at all
