I'm working on integrating Google Maps into the app I'm working on and I've had a rather unpleasant time doing it thus far. Regardless, I finally got a SupportMapFragment displaying a map and set a location and zoom level.

android:configChanges="orientation|keyboardHidden|keyboard" will avoid the destruction (and recreation) of your activity, which should then carryon to your frag.
it would be nice to have a thread dedicated to doing this stuff that doesnt block on the UI thread, nor affects asynctasks which block other asynctasks
I've 2 ASyncTasks, one retrieves a value from an httpPost and the other update some elements of the UI (including an listview).
The problem is that since both ASyncTasks share the same background thread, if the network opperation start first and runs slow (due a bad network connectivity). The oth...
looks like you can do it with Async Tasks if you are tageting 11+, and if you need lower my guess is you have to use Thread/handler for one of your operations instead of Async
