Is there any issue to Heat Detector and the SOCVFinder room single-handedly nuking such comments? That is, multiple users from that room reviewing comments and casting enough flags for them to be destroyed. — Kyll12 secs ago
@Kyll - I'm not terribly excited about a chatroom gathering together to coordinate flags on content in order to automatically delete it. I think it's helpful to have an outside party review these comments to provide another perspective. Also, if there's a pattern of abusive comments, moderators won't know about it if they're silently deleted via coordinated flags (that's another moderator tooling issue to be addressed). — Brad Larson ♦1 min ago
@Petter maybe we can add a guideline in the FAQ "please don't pile on flags unless the comment really warrants it, only one flag is enough for a moderator to take a look".
@Tunaki I like that guideline. Do we also want to ensure that we only flag things we have marked "tp"? There are some "fp" that I sometimes flag for other reasons (obsolete/chatty).
No for me, the 'too chatty' ones we catch are really bonuses. The main goal is still the fp / tp feedback loop for the classifier which is only for abusive / not constructive.
we catch a too chatty, ok, it can be flagged. but fp for the classifier so that it does not start reporting all of those :)
Just to clarify, we're using "Not constructive" for snarky stuff that could lead to needless bickering but isn't bad enough for "offensive". Is this correct?

We're coached to spend as little time as possible on comment flags, so we don't really try to enforce flag categorization. Usually it's a quick delete/no-delete decision, with the same process being used regardless of category.

Nobody here is going to appreciate your efforts because most of the people who use meta are the same people posting these rude, barely over the bar for constructiveness comments. It's unfortunate that the culture here on SO is one of snark and snobbiness to newbies. But I'm not sure how that could actually be changed in practice.
