it's a simple echo

you probably have an error somewhere else on your HTML or make_link() is generating invalid markup

makelink is only hyperlinks
instead of typing out a very long string, i shortened it down to a few characters while testing, since it's a new repo

then something on your table might be missing a closing tag, this is something much easier to debug by yourself

I do - but the string needs to be returned, not echoed inside the function. You really ought to learn how to use a debugger - this stuff is much easier to see when you're stepping through the code.

i did look at it, and if it's building a long repeated string in testing, the short hand is to do it in a function

@LeviMorrison That's better than 'isNotPrimitive'. Although people might argue that 'complex' is not a good description of class or interface, it's vague enough to leave it open to future expansion to enums and other things.

@Patrick That may actually be the one and only case where it's not. But I would still argue that if you are using a PHP config file then you may as well just declare a var with a known name, it's not really particularly functionally different.

@DaveRandom But then the config file is polluting the global namespace? Could lead to name conflicts and you would have to check inside each file to be sure. I like the return option here. Are there any drawbacks?

@Patrick tbh I'd just rather use a proper config file format, one that doesn't execute code. If you must use a PHP config file then I suppose it's marginally better to return, the issue for me is more that you are includeing it in the first place
