@CarrieKendall Eh. I've never used one I didn't write myself (because all the wheels I could find were octogons and needed to be reinvented). My dad's little side business has had luck with the Wordpress eCommerce plugin, though then you'd have to worry about, well, Wordpress.
@Charles yeah, i don't think i am skilled enough to venture there yet. how long did it take for your build? was the cart-side complex or did you stay simple?
@CarrieKendall For work, because the things that are being ordered are complex, it ended up being more complex. Go fig. The one I'm doing for my own external thing is going to be pretty simple as well, but I have yet to decide on a payment method. Kind of leaning towards Stripe, as they seem nice and simple.
so when people say "You're a piece of crap!" I respond with "Thanks for noticing... you're looking rather shitty today as well, what a good time to be alive!".
@Charles I used Google Checkout just to learn more about it.. I didn't mind it.. but the whole third-party checkout deal is not worth the publicity they promise
@FrankAstin I can never at any point remember what any of the bracketed modifiers at the end of most lines do, and always end up stumbling my way through blindly until I give up and crank the debug level up to figure it out.
In phpinfo page, it shows installed. Also, i am able to generate .png file using Command line interface, but when i am trying to generate a .png file using PHP script it is not working.

for example now i process the page like that :

Hopefully not that dumb of a question but I'm brand new to php: I want to create a xml that retrieves strings from my mysql database. In order to create the xml file I'm using php (that one was obvious). When I click on the php file it gives me back the strings from my database, but I need the xml file in order to use it for something else. So... Am I overlooking something? I'm using DOM btw to create the xml file.
@CarrieKendall laziest (and most efficient because of it) problem solvers on earth. We solve problems once so that we don't have to do it again :) So, naturally we hate solving peoples 'urgent / life' problems.. because they are always the same problem. Am I right? Haha.

the reroute function was my attempt to allow the 'subsections' to live within the top level controller... however i'm sure you can see the pitfalls of this.

@tereško because after a first attempt and a failure at writing a mini framework to build the app on I decided to swallow my pride and use a big boy framework.. symfony2 and CI were what I narrowed it down to and CI had a shorter learning curve.
@tereško not like I can compare with anything.. however I have been reading that the newest versions of CI on github (which is what I have) are much improved over the last. (arch, code, ect..)
having never used a php framework before CI, I'm really not the person to comment on this. I was taking the word of the community.
@JohnMerlino this would basically be removing the dashboard controller and just routing /dashboard/X directly to the X controller?
you basically need to use the routes to grab the information passed in the uri, and based on that information, you need to direct the user accordingly. I did this in codeigniter in order to build a CMS which allows people to create vanity urls.
@tereško obviously, i'm not new to the internet. However these '4' seem to be the 'big players' which is to say there is a large community surrounding them.

@rlemon that does tend to be the reason frameworks exist! In all reality, yes most projects will require a framework for sake of 'speed of coding'. I think this is a case of pick a beast and attempt to master it.
Each framework has its faults. Cake and CI have smaller learning curves than the bigger symphony and Zend.
@rlemon I'll give it a try: Do you want a maintainable project? No: go with customizing wordpress; Yes: Use SF2, if you don't want use ZF and work around their controllers. There is no other option. All the static, scaffolding rapid development frameworks are just as unmaintainable pointless stuff so using it would be like wordpress with more work and lying to your self that you are actually creating value
say you do a query and get 10 rows back, is there a more efficient way to tally up all the int values of a given column than iterating through the result set and adding manually? something like COUNT(*) in sql but different obviously
@edorian SF2 is on my list to learn ^(read up) however I don't have the resources / time to sit down and tackle that right now... CI seemed at the time to be the lesser of evils.
If you don't have time to build something use wordpress and crap into that. At least you are not wasting time buy building something that looks maintainable for 2 month
i was trying to remove all href attributes from the A' tags from the HTML code source , for example :

@rlemon , in this chat room two most hated frameworks are CodeIgniter and CakePHP ( opinions change on weekly basis ) , the ZF2 is usually left at piece, because it is library-like framework and despite all the flaws , it lets you dig your own hole

@MorSela of course it's the same. you asked how to remove all href from a, which is the same as "how to remove attribute X from element Y". Once you understand that it is elements and attributes all these problems are the same. and once you understood that you dont want to do that with regex but a dom parser it gets ridiculously easy. check out my answer in the linked duplicate.

Hi folks. I'm building an application that, theoretically, sends hundreds of requests to a REST API (via a cURL-based libary). The problem is, it seems to be synchronous - I have to wait for a response from one request before I can send another.
Is there any way to offload this to another process or kill a cURL connection immediately after the request?

@MorSela the stylesheet is likely referenced with a relative path. check with firebug net panel to see where it tries to load it from. if its relative, you have to change the url to be absolute.
