I concur it could have been tidier. As i remember quite a few libraries have followed the same path, making debugging requests from fresh instances lees than user friendly

I think really, you/we need to stop thinking of 'Linux' as the be all and end all, it's the desktop environment you want to compare, ie not win vs lin, but win vs gnome vs kde vs unity vs et al.
