the gnome system monitor takes 22% of a cpu though
the mac refuses to boot from my win7 cd, just shows what looks like a clear terminal, but I can't type anything. This is going well.

@MooingDuck Sorry to break it to you, but with dual boots I would always install windows first :P
That probably isn't the only way though

in which case, installing windows first isn't really an option
or at least, not a good one

@MooingDuck Isn't it? I'm probably missing something, I always thought windows was the pickiest OS so should be installed first. Why is it a bad idea to install it first?
also if you want to know what distro you are running, do cat /etc/*-release

@Ell because macbook pros come with OSX pre-installed, and uninstalling it simply to install windows first seems quite silly.
also I haven't yet found my OSX cd again
