Yep.

As long as you catch the subclass exception first and then the IOException in a seperate catch block you should be able to catch it seperately

Not really. It's still the same problems, except now that a large chunk of core users are gone the chatroom is quieter. Still has spam, constant rule breaking and can't be controlled by a RO alone

You don't need to know the rules if you use common sense

The problem is that there are a lot drop-by askers (people who join the room, paste a ton of code right into chat, ask a question and repeat it multiple times)

That's one type of spam + rule breaking, then there's ping for attention, mass pinging, image spam (png, jpg, gif, any kind of onebox really that ends up overflowing chat)

Images aren't a problem themselves, but it usually ends up with multiple in a row

A single image here and there is fine, a single gif here and there is fine; but when multiple come right after each other, it ends up being too much

I was a RO over there before I left, I tried moderating it but there's too much for one person to handle

The rest of the ROs were usually away

Q: Request for reopening the room "Android Era with Kotlin and Java"

It's been rough time for our chatroom for few weeks. We tried our best to stop it. But at the end it was not sufficient to keep the room alive. But after discussing with Jon and my fellow ROs, we came up with some ideas which we want to implement. First thing first, we will make the room gallery...

Getting crushed by the community though, even Jon is sceptic

I am starting to doubt it'll be reopened, and I actually don't care either way. Most of the current ROs are rarely there and they rarely do any kind of moderation of what goes on. Me and some other people from Android Era (+ leaf village) created a discord server so we could still chat, but not worry about moderators and spam and all the other bs

(when I say not worry about moderators I mean in terms of stuff getting misinterpreted and someone ends up banned as a result of it. The thread from a moderator with closing a chatroom isn't fun going around with hanging over you either)

It sooner or later had to come this way. And to be honest... I don't see a reason to start a fight against mods. Hell there even has been a guy who wrote something along the lines of "kill Jon C." (who closed the room). They got more power and there is not much one can do if you are in their scope...

And I can understand their points. The fact that certain people could spam the hell out of that room without anyone stopping them is a sign that moderation by RO's has not been done properly (or to be honest... Almost not at all).

Either close it, give it some time, hope that people understand that they did wrong and that it will get better
or
deal with a room with missing moderation and lots of traffic

I know what I would choose ;)

I wrote this over on meta chat, but it is still a valid point: the discord server we have has most of the AE core users. We are basically Android Era. The same users tend to get slightly out of control at times, but it gets back into control quickly because we actually manage it

We are not at all Android Era. The people that write on the discord are the people with the most messages in Android Era, yes. But they are not Android Era....
The people that help there should be "AE". Not the ones abusing a service that has been create for a different purpose.

If you would take out Tavo, Wietlol, Michael, ballBreaker, Itachi and me out of this room (maybe Madara and fge as well) then you could say that you threw the core out of the Java chat...

What I mean is that the core should be the part that is doing the major part of "work". Not the major part of "work causing"

But those are just my 3 pennies :)

@Ramona because this is an open chat platform where anyone can see anything. If there are people who don't like a room, they can stay out of it. But if there's a vote to reopen a room those people will be against it and maybe with good reason

I think it is because it has already been freezed, too much mess for normal community that does not care about chat rooms. SE have a thin line how rooms should be run, if moderators need to be involved multiple times, they just shut'em down since not core stuff of SE
