Kvelertak (translating to English as "stranglehold" or "chokehold") is a six-piece rock & roll band from Stavanger, Norway. All lyrics are written in Norwegian, the band's native language, and concerning Norse mythology/Viking folklore. As of today, the six members are: Erlend Hjelvik (vocals), Vidar Landa (guitar), Bjarte Lund Rolland (guitar), Maciek Ofstad (guitar), Marvin Nygaard (bass), and Kjetil Gjermundrød (drums). @jalf maybe you could abstract up the Windows API layer. you get calls to DllMain on thread attach and detach. but I recall from 1999 that it sort of conflicts with the declared TLS stuff. must be very careful.

@jalf i had to look that up but evidently it's just about running static initializers (and finalizers?). so maybe you can fake it by calls to onexit or the like?

@jalf for those who fill out the MS survey, remember to give variadic templates and curly braces initializer lists top priority, and mention standard main support prominently. the latter because it would be really nice if one could teach standard C++ with Visual C++ without having to explain how to work around that Microsoft does most everything in non-standard ways. i.e., without accustomizing students to the idea that Workarounds(TM) are a common and good way to work.

@AlfPSteinbach Sure, and those too. I did put a few notes about better separation between ISO C++ and MS extensions (which would cover the main() thing) but didn't mention that explicitly

@MrAnubis That's the type you get from an iterator when you dereference it. And the OP wants iterators into string sequences. So you need to compare that type to std::string.

the problem with LR is that it effectively is implemented by goto

which means that if you want a readable, maintainable parser out the other side, then it's not going to happen

in addition, it makes a real mess for semantic actions

perhaps the ideal would be closer to something like ANTLR

LL-style, but with additions to cover more common non-LLable cases
