What do you guys think about decreasing reputation gained/lost from up/down votes if: the voter has low reputation, the question's score is less than X or if the question's most popular tag is in the top X most popular tags of the entire site?

I wouldn't complicate the system unless there's a decent reason...

You have to account for when the questions' score rises above the level and vote retracts are going to hack out free points as well

I see, well I was thinking of ways to help "balance out" rep.

I like that you're trying to make the site better by decreasing points gained from LQ Q&As, but you could do the same by educating users not to UV / keepalive bad stuff

The thing is... To get to a Trusted User level, you have to acquire reputation next to a compulsive manner of SO usage... Any user who does that is probably either 1. Loves SO a LOT to the point where they have near no life (read: Jon Skeet) 2. Loves answering the questions, no matter how poor, just to get the points and checkmarks (read: Campers)
