I'm required to use a website for school that scrolls the page whenever you click an inputbox. Is there a way to disable JS from scrolling the page?

Okay. Open-ended sounds right, but I don't think asking for specific APIs and tools for a problem is "opinion-based".

you could run some resource-heavy stuff and see how long it takes

I had tried a couple attempts to make JavaScript tests like that, but when they're small enough to be unnoticable, I find they're too inaccurate to be meaningful.

Not that I know enough about that sort of thing to write a good test for it, anyways.

That itself, ought to be it's own SO question.

Wouldn't even know where to start in measuring RAM capability/availability.

I suppose than, HTTP headers wouldn't be the solution at all, more rather, a JS API that exposes available RAM, Processing, and otherwise.

Which I guess is what window.performance is for..

Eh? What if you send a request for a resource and say that you have fuck all RAM available. But then after you send the request, lots of RAM is freed?

@ChaseMoskal Why would you need to do that anyway? You'd have to be delivering some pretty intensive stuff (OpenGL) to justify the requirement, and even then why would you need to know ahead of time whether that's going to work on the user's system?

I figure I'll settle on a combination of ballparking bandwidth based on the Navigation Timing API, and then also just force mobile user-agents to be given the Lean version.

Let the user choose the CPU intensive stuff. Don't try to second-guess.

Descriminating based on the User-agent string and the Nav Timing should probably give me the results I need for bandwidth, but I guess it's just plain impossible to detect memory or CPU stats.

The most important thing to bear in mind when developing for the Web, is that you don't have full control.

I'll just have to assume that if the bandwidth result is slow, than the memory and CPU likely follows suit.

guys, can I change href url based on the referrer link that brought the user to that page?

I'm making a referal system, and there's this "Buy" Button

so if the user came to the site from the referal link (mysite.com/aff.php?aff=002&bid=1)

the buy button would go to the pay page making reference to the referer who brought the visitor to the page, you know? >.>

I don't know if I'm clear =p

this way I know if the user the affiliate brought to my site has bought something or not, thus paying the affiliate his bonus or not

One method I can think of is giving a specific URL to those affliated websites

that tells your website where it came from

such as
www.yourawesomesite.com?affliate=1

Then you can search ur database or whatever for that aflliated website id

I realised making a Logger is so awesome because you can simply turn on and off certain  situations in a second
