here, ddlSelectListITems will be empty if ddl1 is not loaded. on ddl1 change, call controller action and load this list so your ddl will have data to choose.

everything i have tried has either given me a compile error or not worked.

This is only my second attempt at making an installer. and its the first time i have added it to the startmenu and desktop icons

On the up side i figured out how to get the DLL's into gac :)

(1) Select the Shortcut

(2) Go to properties -> Icon

(3) Select dropdownlist -> browse

(4) In the dialog "Icon" -> browse

(5) In the dialog "Select Item in Project" -> Add File (Select the *.ico file you need)

(6) Click button "OK"

doing some stuff when an assembly is loaded
some of that stuff may fail
and i want the app to crash if that happens
i throw an exception and it disappears into the abyss
though it seems to be on the main thread
i suspect maybe the event sender is just discarding my exception

yes its not ideal to be performign that kind of work in an event handler but hey ho
