async fn in a trait would desugar to 2 items: an associated function and an unnameable associated type. That associated type would use impl Trait in each implementation. And there's no reason to limit that to async fn: we could decide that any trait method can use impl Trait in its return type, which would desugar again to an unnameable associated type.
