Facebook has open-sourced its HipHop Virtual Machine (HHVM), which it claims is significantly better than the PHP interpreter that it currently uses (HipHop).

Its claim is that it's 60% faster and uses 90% less memory.

However, it is still in development and is not ready for production use.

HipHop, the custom-built PHP interpreter that it is currently using for its website, translates PHP scripts into C++ code, then compiles the C++ code to machine code. Because the scripts are compiled to machine code, it means they run much faster.

i am well aware of what it is and what it does , as is every other regular SO php chat visitor

i am also aware that i does not have support php 5.3 and does not implement all the php extensions
