even bloody http.NewRequest can return an error because it takes a string, not url.URL. so we wrote our own NewRequest, but it's only one case of many

well, satisfied is not the right word here. We all admit that for our applications, Go is the most appropriate language. And most of us don't like some of its sides. But yeah, some of my colleagues like Go.
I mean I am satisfied with Go because there is no better alternative
