if present dont insert else insert

can it done using single query

I can use select coun(*) from test where name='john' ,if it returns >0 then do nothing else insert query

cant it be done using single query?

As you can see there no named called john

I want to insert john

As john is already not present

so john will be inserted

however if you insert mohan it will not insert as mohan is already present

I developed an ASP.NET Web API and when I created it I chose no authentication. But now the boss man wants me to use active directory (Which I had never even heard of). So I have to implement it. At the moment I'm connected to another computer that has a visual machined with the active directory server and is connected to mine through a switch. How would a connection string to a thing like this even look like? How do I test that connection string? ... Is this a correctly formulated question?

@krishnamohan i need to customise treeview like this.The behavior should be:
* If the parent node is selected, by default all child nodes should also be selected
* If the parent node is NOT selected, the user should be able to select all child nodes without change the checked state of parent node.
