no its not like that you can
but i tried a lot and i faced codec issues vlc already handled this thing
otherwise you have to wrote your own for handling codecs

humm i want is to work without VLC but even i am not get success with VLC. SO i will first try with the VLC player and then will make it without VLC

i did the same actually ;) but couldn't able to write my own handlers for codecs then finally i used vlc :)
