I was able to reproduce your environment on my laptop using minishift and Strimzi 0.14.0 and it works like a charm. Of course not the NodeJS application but just the console producer with which you are having problema as well. I would suggest to follow exactly same steps from the blog post I mentioned for extracting cert, creating the truststore and running the kafka console producer script (not using the properties file but passing properties on the command line)
