I decided to use anchorpane instead of borderpane because it allowed more freedom and as of right now I'm done with the design aspect. Now I can starting working on the logic of the game.

AnchorPane is a static layout. It will not allow you to resize your children

Inside catch, write e.printStackTrace();

Well I get the root element from the fxml file(anchorpane) and put it into a stackpane

You can run anchorpane if you screen resolution doesn't change in large extent

@ItachiUchiha if some of my buttons are getting smaller as I decrease the size of my window with my cursor, how can I make them stay the same size?

is it simply a matter of setting the buttons isresizable to false or is that not the best solution?

but, I set int x= 1; (line 6) and then x=2; after the two numbers have been added correctly... haven't I?

@mikeeustace netstat -an shows that a port to a service I have started is listening on 0.0.0.0, but I can't connect to it remotely... Probably some firewall problem now I don't even know whether Windows 7 has a builtin firewall

It does, and it's on by default. So, you want to turn off the firewall?

NetSh Advfirewall set allprofiles state off
