We need some canonical question about errors when reading files into R that just tells folks to pore over their file for the weird line or character.

yeah, it is a minefield though, my latest favourite is Excel not writing newline characters to CSV, really bad
tough for a noob to launch into readLines or scan or skip/nrows

When I try to limit a gam plot (with bands) to an subset area, the line and the band keep hitting the plot margin.
