@user1690130 In the case of the US, we buy more foreign goods than we sell. Doing a quick check, it looks like Canada is now running a (much smaller) trade deficit as well though.

@user1690130 I believe quite a bit of the oil comes from federally owned land, but the drilling is probably private, so I think both are involved to at least some degree.

@user1690130 First of all, Canadians (mostly) have slightly different ideas of what's liberal vs. conservative. Second, conservative by Canadian standards isn't very conservative by US standards.

@EtiennedeMartel One of the big problems with depending too heavily on a single product. Very attractive when the price is right, but can go straight to hell very quickly when/if the market changes.
