Not that it really matters, it's just that it's fun to have some new rep when you return to the site after having been absent from it for a while, and that's one of the answers which did that for me

@DanielMinett Basically, you need the user id of the current user, from there, you need to do a query on the database that takes an id as input and gives a name of a user back (this can be easily constructed by looking at the db structure and combining that with some sql knowledge)

You can do either of those steps at one of two times: 1. When creating the link, in which case you have to put the data you got in the GET variables of the link or in the custom script

@Jasper Questions about dev tools are on-topic on SO. SF is trying to retarget itself to professional sysadmin questions. If you were the sysadmin here, SF'd be OK, but SO might work out. Honestly though it sounds like it's just a broken thing on github's side of things.

Posting a new answer is fine, that's why we allow for multiple answers. Bringing the answer in question (pun intended) to the community (or sub-community, for that matter) is fine. That's part of the reason we have chat in the first place. Promoting your own posts for the sake of reputation, is...

@Charles I meant the linked question here (which wasn't on github) and the very fact that the question can occur in a home situation would make me think it's not a good match for SF even if you are the sys admin (after all, after all, we're all about not having the same question twice (open) so the question shouldn't be askable by a non sysadmin to be on the sysadmin site)

@Jasper It's amazingly easy for qualified individuals to fake "home" issues as professional issues. After all, my house has a managed network with a linux firewall. It's a small location, you see, with only four users.

ok, too bad it doesn't tell you the actual error. may have been a temp glich on either end. index-pack does extensive validation on the input, so if one part is screwed up for whatever reason (broken memory maybe?) it will error out.
