ListView can never be deprecated.

Though some methods of ListView have been deprecated with API level 23.

Well not technically deprecated, but we now have RecyclerView and there is pretty much no reason to use it anymore.

Also AFAIK recyclerView will make it's way into the innards of other components over time, like viewpager for example.

Does anyone here uses Appium or Espresso?

@WarrenFaith I watched a talk where they stated that RecyclerView is a first of a class of components. It's the first one and therefore it feels kind of raw the plan is to build stuff on top of that over time and even convert some existing components to use RecyclerView behind the scenes.

@nana I think that sounds right, the RV really seems to be about abstraction. In the past the LV was responsible for everything - dividers, clicks, animations, etc. With the RecyclerView that's all divided up to give developers more flexibility, really. However, in some simple list apps that flexibility is unnecessary so I hope they don't actually deprecate ListView anytime soon ha.

I wrote a post about that, so I really did some digging into the differences between them haha.
