I had that problem when I started answering Ruby questions. What I did to fix it was to write really good answers. As good as I could. Even if it took hours. Sometimes, the votes moved from the quick answer to my slow, exhaustive one. Sometimes, even the checkmark moved.

Yeah I guess. That's how I started in MySQL (before I got to 150 tag points). I think part of it is that an SQL question is so much easier to test yet an Android one isn't, and I hate going out on a limb. Downvotes are scary haha.
