The client doesn't want redirection, I don't think that will work.

It should be another way of doing it.

RewriteRule ^[a-zA-Z\-]+\-i([0-9]+) /old-page-handler/?id=$1 [R=301, L, QSA]

I suppose it's where the value is for the client - you may have to charge them a day's work to get this working or an hour to do it with redirects.

You can probably just intercept these requests in Page_Controller::ini();

check $this->getRequest(); grab the URL, regex... then you can return a SS_HTTPRequest object with the rendered template... I think

I've suggested a re-write rule that wouldn't redirect and should make it easier; I've suggested redirects and I think I've picked another option. all of them are non-ideal and you're being strangled by a needless requirement

I think I will try redirect or rewrite rule next week. Thanks for your help.
