I'm trying to understand what it's doing. I can understand the expression and definition of the function, but why is there a (1) after dv and v? What does that do?

Is it possible using Greek alphabet to represent variables in Matlab environment?
i.e. I'd use the Greek character epsilon in matlab window prompt.
Any idea? I tried to insert \epsilon but I received an error.
