Q: cannot create PostgreSQL server db

I am trying to creata a new database in remote server. I have installed postgresql using apt-get install postgresql but when I try to create a new db in Paralells, I am getting: Error: Connection to the database server has failed because of network problems: could not connect to server...

it seems you have network problem. ping host ip and check that postgresql port(5432) is open

are you sure that postgres port(5432) is open? maybe firewall block your packet. you can check it by telnet to port 5432.

what command you use to connect to postgresql server?

because postgresql does not have user root. try psql -U username db_name

first change your user to postgres user with command (su postgres or su -postgres)

and create db with command (createdb db_name)

because, if 212... were on the same server or if 212.. were also 148.... which is the same server as webserver, then parallels can also create without any problems, because it has access to postgresql
