How would you explain the difference between a Database and an excel file?

Databases generally target high performance, the ability to store lots of data, and the ability to have many tables that relate to each other. Spreadsheets are designed to be interacted with directly by humans, and relating sheets to each other directly is usually difficult to impossible.
