@m59 what's the "classic filter issue"?

Filtering data that doesn't stabilize.

For example, if you have 'FOO' and the filter lowercases it, then the filter runs again, the text is already lowercased and doesn't change any further

therefore, no more filtering (loop)

but, if it's a process that doesn't stabilize, you get an infinite digest loop

People have been looking for an elegant solution for a LONG time, so I doubt I just solved it with that simple function haha

You should not have filters that won't stabilize

You should make that transformation in the controller code and bind to its result.

It's a tough call @BenjaminGruenbaum. I think my answer is better explained, but his has some nice examples.

That seems to be a common enough view, but why? That inevitably requires more code and is less intuitive.

Putting code that transforms an array in a general sort of way seems like it definitely is a filter rather than a service.

Angular expects filters to be referentially transparent, once you don't make them as such - things go bad.

That's what filters are about, if you don't like how they behave then don't use filters.

Although it could dirty check against the original input and not the filter as a fw . I guess that's just usually more expensive.

But that's determining the overall architecture based on the implementation

I mean, I don't want to care about how a filter works, so much as the idea of a filter in general

By the way, I'm taking all of this to heart, not meaning to sound argumentative

@xxx mvp is minimal viable product. it's basically scoping a project to the most minimal feature set required for it to be useful enough to help someone with at least 1 specific problem.
