@tereško I've upvoted the answer but I don't quite understand why you use jQuery's .submit() method to set the action instead of DOM0 .onsubmit?

Is there any advantage?

I cant seem to pass my jquery values to data of an ajax request I am getting and uncaught bad convert exception

Worst part is that they all get paid for it.

the jquery gets the value from a hidden field. then i put it in the data of the request

body width depends computer resolution so i cant add static value in css

My program doesn't understand that is an empty string unless he got 0

huh? The empty string has a length of 0, ''.length === 0. Make sure there aren't any zero-width spaces in there.

but then again, it would be rather hard to have an argument about semicolons in a Python sketch...

There are cases where semi-colons are necessary in js, but you usually don't get to them.

my pov: If a language has them, always use them. if it doesn't have them, well.. yeah, don't use them

Semi-colons are punctuation for compilers, and in rare occasions, also for programmers. Use them, don't use them, whatever; just know what you're doing and don't be a pompous prick

fileName is probably just null until it gets assigned a value, so its falsy and !filename will be true

Because fileName !== false. When a file isn't selected, it's the empty string, which is falsy

Also, fileName = false is an assignment expression. It is not an equality or identity check.
