It had a few different layouts though, including the monolithic/universal layout which allowed you to combine most things into one window

IB was a separate program, and that worked out better overall because you could have IB on a separate screen and not need to worry about having it tied to Xcode at all times

The most annoying thing for me is that I'd really like to be able to have an entire window dedicated to the project and inspector sidebars without the editor and drag that off to a separate screen

I don't mind everything in one window. What I disagree with is that sometimes the control views does not make sense in some modes.

Like the right hand side bar, which is pretty useful when opening storyboards and xib: I think they should just disappear when you switch to .m files.

Or at least remember option for each view on each of the file types. If I enable console view on .m file, it doesn't mean I want to see console in project file or storyboard.

But I'm sure there are workarounds though.

Since I usually only am working on one screen in a storyboard, I wish it would let me focus on the screen I am working on

Without seeing other screens or worrying about centering it

I also wish, if there is room, it would automatically open an assistant editor that has a .h file of whatever object I am editing

Those are pretty much my only complaints about Xcode

Which is saying a lot, considering how important it is to a dev and how much time we spend in it

Usually when swift says to put in a semicolon, it's because you messed up something and it's desperately trying to make the syntax correct when it's not.
