my loop seems to be executing twice i cant get a hold of why this is happening

It seems to me that it's called twice... Then again, my stills are kinda weak

is it because i assign the array index to the size of the generic list

i tried declaring array as String acode[]=null;

but it threw null pointer at me

You're doing toString() to full lists. That's likely not what you want. Something like: email[i]=emailList.get(i); , is probably what you intended

Anyway, why do you need arrays? Also, List has a toArray() method that you can use

well the list is dynamically generated based on user input .... and am pretty new to this concept ... thanks for the help bro

I mean, why don't you just use the lists since they need to be dynamic? Basically you need to create the arrays only if you're using another api that requires arrays (and then you can use List.toArray())

(I'd make a class Email or something, with the fields address and accessCode, and then use a List<Email>, since they seem to come in pairs anyway and the code relies on that)

Why is there such general confusion about how NullPointerException's work in Java? Every time a question comes up, not only does the question itself show general confusion, but it is met with a barrage of answers and comments that are complete nonsense.

It's so strange to me; there's got to be some fundamental source for systemic confusion like that.
