Did you insert data through hibernate mongo API ? I mean BSONTimestamp is a internal type. You should change mongo db collection to use BSONDate and see it to works. Something worth looking.

I use spring mongodb and morphia
in two difffent projects

I get the same exact error in morphia too
It's not a standard type like I said
you may need to add a custom type converter to handle this type
