Q: Android SDK won't start

I have installed java jdk 1.8 and later the android SDK. Android SDK manager won't open, it flashes for a second and nothing else happen. By running android.bat i get the following error: C:\android\tools>android.bat Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no swt-win32-...

OS type and version, memory (RAM), Eclipse version, where you downloaded it from... all good things to know...

Win7 ultimate 64bit, 8gb, not using Eclipse. Downloaded from official websites. thanks.

the second line of your debug says: org.eclipse.swt.internal.Library.loadLibrary

what are you trying to do, the current jdk is 8 ?

don't have ecplipse intalled, I use b4a maybe this install some eclipse component. yes jdk 8

I repeat again, what are you trying to do ? without android eclipse or studio ?

I use a RAD called basic4android, and it requires JAVA and ANDROID SDK. I have been using this from years, now this problem happen with my new laptop. The software have always worked perfectly on win7.

By the way it is very naughty to use the JDK with android, but it does work if you know what you are doing (I do it) but then I am a very naughty boy ;O)

i.c. I think you need to get the WHOLE thing (then delete stuff you don't need) meaning a full eclipse or studio download WITH SDK integrated. And NDK for the full experience.

I think i need only the android SDK manager to works to continue my work. Not eclipse, thaks for your recommandations.

but what you are downloading HAS Eclipse dependencies... that's why I asked where you are downloading it from, you see ?

You said you were using official sites, developer.android.com/index.html has android in the tilte, quite a big clue.

I dowloaded android sdk from developer.android and java from oracle ofc :')

The RAD i use require to download JAVA and ANDROID SDK, so i downloaded both things from official websites, the rad is another story.

before install the RAD you need to install JAVA and ANDROID sdk, but android sdk does not start, no matter if i have installed b4a or not. it is a separate thing.

*android sdk manager does not start.

I have many hours of pain updating the SDK

now i install studio let's see if the sdk manager will load.

I stopped updating eclipse in the end, and use a stable eclipse, and development studio

the tools are the worst, not compatible with old versions

I use b4a because it is very easy to use and powerfull, i don't have to make special application.

now installing studio i hope it works otherwise i trow this crap out from window.

yes same, i've had one app that got much success on play store but then they taken it off.

it was a "social network" integration for kik messenger.

studio installed and it is downloading sdk things.

I like pushing the envelope, the first thing I did with Android was load the NDK and program in C++

it will work, the trick is throwing away the crap you dont need ;O)

yeah when the sdk is installed i take off studio, also because I dont know how to use it and for what i do the tool i use is sufficent.

Jmonkey engine uses java but has a great user interface and is easy to use

The environmental variables are INDICATORS to the OS of how to run a command

SDK Manager.exe change directory to where it is in a shell (command prompt)

run it from there, in MUST run correctly

I'm know so many systems, and mix them using UNIX shell's I forget how difficult this is ;O)

DON'T re-install everything, it can be fixed, patience is a virtue, you really need to be a lunatic to be a programmer ;O)

I flip to UNIX when I can, it does SO much more than Microsoft. I can remove files Windows says I cannot... but that's not you... I'll help you (I use cygwin)
